Once I had gained an understanding of the Social Realism genre, I made a bold decision to make my two minute film introduction a hybrid genre with Drama. This would enable me to focus on creating a more detailed story and give me more scope when representing social classes of people.
I knew from the early stages that I wanted a strong voice over with melancholy music throughout the introduction of my film. I also wanted visual flash back’s throughout, which at the end would turn into present time as if my main character was reliving an experience, and waiting for what will happen next. This would lead on to the rest of the story, if it was to be made into a full feature length film. I felt that I needed practice in filming this sort of social realism/drama. On a day when I had only one lesson in the morning, I gathered a small group of actors, from my A-Level drama class, who would help me to create, what I called, my practice film.
I created a story, different to the one in my main task, but one that would feature many similarities in the style of writing, filming and editing. I wanted to direct this practice run identically to the way I was planning to direct my main task.
By the end of this small project I gained a clear understanding of what challenges I would face with my main task and I had a head start on finding ways to deal with any problems I was sure to face.
This is my two minute practice film entitled, ‘Ruined My Life!’
